CANADA GREENER HOMES INITIATIVE & HER+

CANADA GREENER HOMES INITIATIVE

Did you know you may be eligible to receive up to $5,600 in grant money from the federal government to improve the efficiency of your home? The Canada Greener Homes Grant started in May 2021 and has already helped tens of thousands of Canadian homeowners. The government designed this program to fight climate change, create jobs and reduce utility bills for homeowners.
The Grant covers up to $5,000 for heating systems and renewable energy items. It also offers up to $600 for the cost of pre- and post-retrofit energy EnerGuide evaluations.

NEW HOME EFFICIENCY REBATE PLUS PROGRAM (HER+)

Enbridge Gas and the Canada Greener Homes Initiative have partnered to provide rebates toward energy-efficient home improvements.  If you are or are becoming an Enbridge Gas customer, if you install a new Heat Pump System in your home, you may be eligible to now receive up to $7,100 in rebates. (This combines the HER+ with the Canada Greener Initiative)

WHAT DOES THE CANADA GREENER HOMES INITIATIVE COVER?

Consequently, you must purchase all the materials and equipment in Canada or from a Canadian online dealer. Here’s what type of improvements the grant covers:

  • Insulation

  • Air-sealing

  • Windows and door replacements

  • Heat Pumps

  • Hot water equipment

  • Solar panels

  • Roofing membranes and foundation waterproofing

  • Smart thermostats

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE CANADA GREENER HOMES INITIATIVE?

To be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Grant, you must be a homeowner and prove you live in the home full-time. Landlords who live off-site aren’t eligible. Moreover, First Nations band councils, Indigenous housing management bodies and land claims organizations can also apply.

CAN YOU QUALIFY FOR THE CANADA GREENER HOMES GRANT?

Visit the Natural Resources Canada website for complete details about how you can qualify for the Canada Greener Homes Grant.  Up to 700,000 grants will be available until 2028. Please read through the criteria and requirements to ensure you’re eligible to receive reimbursement once your home retrofits are complete.

HOW DOES THE GREENER HOMES GRANT WORK?

The first thing you need to know about the Canada Greener Homes Grant is that you must pay for all the materials and contractors upfront. You must also pay for two EnerGuide evaluations conducted by an authorized energy adviser – one before your renovations begin and one after they’re complete. Once the auditor certifies the improvements, you’ll receive a cheque in the mail within approximately six months.
