4 Signs You Need to Service Your Water Heater

Your water heater works hard to provide your home with hot water and requires regular maintenance to operate steadily and efficiently.

Our experienced technicians recommend an annual water heater inspection to ensure there is no build-up of sediments or debris, which can seriously damage or clog your system if left untreated.

Here are four signs your water heater requires service. 1. There’s a leak

Water pooling around your hot water tank is a red flag. Your water heater may be leaking because of a stress fracture. Alternatively, there may be a loose connection to the hot water tank. Therefore, it’s best to have a professional inspect the water heater problem and make the necessary repairs.

2. The water is discoloured

If you notice that the hot water coming out of your taps is brown, rusty or tainted with small particles and you have not received notification from your utility company of work being done in your area, your water heater requires attention. Discoloured water is often a sign that your hot water tank is full of sediment or the metal anode inside is rusted. Consequently, you should call a plumber right away, as rust in your water can cause potential health hazards.

3. The water temperature isn’t consistent

Do you notice that your hot water sometimes comes out lukewarm? Do you run out of hot water very quickly? If so, you may have excessive mineral buildup inside your tank. Over time, sediments can coat the heating elements, preventing them from working correctly.

4. You hear strange noises

It’s perfectly normal for your water heater to make a little noise. However, loud banging, popping and cracking sounds are cause for concern. Water heaters typically become noisy when there’s considerable mineral buildup inside the tank.

If you notice any of the above problems, a technician from Aire One Heating & Cooling can come to your home and inspect the issue. If they suspect mineral buildup, they’ll empty your hot water tank and refill it with clean water. They may also deep clean your water heater’s coils, rods and other vital components.

Fortunately, investing in one of our home protection plans will prevent you from running into severe and expensive problems with your water heater and extend its overall lifespan.
